From China's Zhejiang Province comes Jing Shan Mao Feng Green Tea...
"Mao Feng" means "hairy peak", a nod to the fluffy buds of this famous tea as well as the clouds in which it is grown...
Like its name sake tea and one of the Ten Famous Teas of China, Huang Shan Mao Feng, this perhaps lesser-known Zhejiang Mao Feng provides an excellent China Green Tea delight.
Harvested in the classic two-leaves-and-a-bud plucking style the leaves are handled gently to preserve their beauty if enjoyed loosely steeped in a glass where they can be observed as they soften and defuse into luscious green tea broth.
Dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty and Jingshan Temple near the well-known Tianmu Mountain, legend tells us that the founder of Jingshan Temple Monk Fa Qin planted tea plants there as the virtues of drinking tea and the practice of Buddhism had become inseparable.
The green tea of Jingshan (Jing mountain) gained a prestigious reputation for it's fragrance and exceptional quality.
Legend says that it was while studding Buddhism at what had become a renowned temple in China, Jingshan Temple, Japanese Monks discovered the virtues of green tea and it's relationship with Buddhism leading to the genesis of tea in Japan.
Today we know that it is the relationship between the high theanine content in this tea and its relationship with the caffeine that creates a state of mind we refer to as clear calm, highly valued for long Buddhist meditations, inseparable from Buddhism, and great for all of us as well.
A tea of rich history, still available for us to enjoy today...
