Keeping Blood Sugar In Check...With Tea...
Another Way Tea Improves Our Lives...Regulating Blood Sugar Levels...
An unexpected, valuable experience...and pleasant realization...
Making the right teas a regular part of your life comes with countless benefits that accumulate over time...
Last November, after a tea tasting, another tea benefit presented itself in an unexpected way. I've long talked about the awareness of some teas being beneficial as anti-diabetics.
After the tasting, a customer who is diabetic shared their monitoring data showing what occurred during the tasting...

He was pleasantly amazed at the improvement in his numbers as we enjoyed some remarkable teas...that tasting was Tea IS Brainfood...The Cognitive Advantages of Tea, which included many high EGCG & high theanine teas.

Recognizing the high significance of the diabetic crisis in the world, I decided to dig into the ways tea may be able to help those determined to make improvements in blood sugar levels, or those equally determined to avoid blood sugar issues in their life...here is what I found out:
Recognizing tea...as a full-body tonic...
In addition to improved immunity and cognitive function, digestive & cardiovascular health, inflammation reduction, weight control, and minimizing biological age...let's add on keeping blood sugar levels in check to tea's plethora of wellbeing & longevity-enhancing properties...
I speak of tea as being 10,000 Medicines, alluding to the countless ways Camellia sinensis, the tea plant, can benefit us, all while delighting our palates as we sip and savor.
You might be keeping blood sugar levels in check without even knowing it...
If you have already become entranced with the satisfaction and even joy of infusing yourself with wonderous ingredients in high-value adding green tea on a daily basis, spectacular! You will be thrilled with what you are about to read.
If you think that the right green teas might be something you should consider bringing into your life, you would be very right.
When it comes to blood sugar levels & diabetes, research shows that those of you enjoying the right green teas could be providing your body with an additional layer of protection from developing blood sugar-related issues, or lessening their impact if you have or had related issues.

How do Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes occur, and why?...
There is something called insulin resistance that occurs when your body is not producing enough insulin, making it more difficult for you to absorb glucose and increasing blood sugar level.
Diabetes is a disease characterized by the insufficient or improper functioning of insulin.
Inadequate secretion of insulin leaves too much glucose in the blood.
When glucose in the serum passes the normal threshold, it leads to hyperglycemia.
EGCG to the rescue?...
From the National Library of Medicine, we learn:
Catechins alleviate diabetes by improving insulin resistance, alleviating oxidative stress, regulating mitochondrial function, alleviating ER stress, producing anti-inflammatory effects, reducing blood sugar sources, and regulating intestinal function.
According to Pacific College of Health & Science, polyphenols and polysaccharides in green tea are effective in reducing blood sugar levels.
They go on to say:
In fact, researchers have found that EGCG (also known as epigallocatechin-gallate, one of the catechin polyphenols) influences the primary way that glucose is absorbed. EGCG may also help diabetics by mimicking the actions of insulin and inhibiting the liver’s production of glucose, thus lowering blood sugar. The liver produces some glucose, but the most common sugar spikes occur from the food we eat.
Healthline shares:
Some of the compounds in green tea, including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), have been shown to stimulate the uptake of glucose into skeletal muscle cells, therefore reducing blood sugar levels.

I am often raving about the benefits of high EGCG teas, and the reasons are numerous. In addition to being anti-diabetic, it is anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-allergic, cardio-protective, anti-inflammatory, neuro-protective, and anti-carcinogenic.
While all green teas contain EGCG, some teas have high levels of EGCG because of their growing conditions.

A Type 2 Diabetes and obesity connection...
The Cleveland Clinic, in an article about Diabesity, explains that obesity makes Diabetes more likely, worsens the condition, and actually compounds conditions that make Diabetes worse by misleading our pancreas into overproducing insulin.
Having obesity can make us up to six times more likely to develop Diabetes.
In addition to the anti-diabetic capabilities of High EGCG Teas mentioned above, drinking several cups a day will also help increase metabolism, allowing us to burn more calories daily through what is known as Energy Expenditure...beneficial in controlling weight.

Medicine may not be the only option...
At Drink Great Tea, when it comes to managing blood sugar levels, we prioritize natural options and try to avoid pharmaceuticals. We prefer natural remedies that align with the healthy tea lifestyle and support bodily systems holistically; however, consult your doctor about implementing any medication changes, especially if you have a pre-existing condition.
While there are medical options available, here is what the National Library of Medicine says:
Currently, pharmacological therapies such as insulin and metformin are primarily used to treat diabetes, but these therapies significantly raise the risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality. Therefore, developing safe, non-toxic, and economically valuable functional food and/or nutritional medicines for diabetes replacement therapy is essential.
In addition to high EGCG teas, here are a few additional steeped-beverage options/blends that can be included in your options:
Crimson C Immune Booster: Studies show that hibiscus may help reduce insulin resistance.
Inflammation Blend: Green tea offers a multitude of health benefits, some of which are particularly beneficial for those with diabetes. Drinking green tea may help reduce cellular damage, decrease inflammation, and optimize blood sugar level control. Our Inflammation Blend combines high-value green tea with a host of other anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Turmeric Masala Chai: Turmeric is a vibrant orange spice well known for its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin, the main active component in turmeric, has been studied for its blood-sugar-lowering properties.
Cinnamon Delight: Cinnamon is a popular spice that has reported antidiabetic properties. This customer favorite is a simple blend of cinnamon & Ceylon black tea.
Time-Out Calming Blend: Chamomile tea has been associated with many health benefits, including promoting healthy blood sugar level regulation.

I say: Don't forget the tea...The tea can be the catalyst to make the whole thing happen...or to keep it happening.
I often refer to the Tea & Mediterranean Diet, which I feel is the ultimate for pursuing wellbeing and longevity.
Considering the teas that can help...
Most grocery store green teas can help, but they won't optimize what you can achieve.
While all green teas contain EGCG, those that contain the highest concentrations, and therefore are the most beneficial, are teas that have been grown under specific conditions and then transported and stored under conditions that properly protect the beneficial compounds in the tea.
Our Collection of High EGCG Teas is a Grouping of Just Such Teas...
