For years the Chinese were trying to speed up the aging of the Naturally Aged version of this tea...Raw, Qing, or Sheng Pu-erh.

With aging, the tea from this region would increase in mellowness and silkiness making the aged version blissful to consume.

Combining the exquisite drinking experience with the reputed health benefits of the tea (especially cardiovascular health), made the aged version highly desirable. So much so that in the 1960's a technique now known as wet pile (similar to composting) was developed to make the tea age faster.

While the end result never matched the Raw version of the tea, the new Ripe version has proven to be delightful in it's own right.

Tea lovers new to this type of tea will find it will become an important part of their tea consumption.
